The United Nations (UN) is an international organization to promote peace, security, and cooperation among nations. It was officially established on October 24, 1945, after World War II. This organization was created by its 51 founding member countries and today it has 193 member states. China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States are the five permanent members of the UN. Also, the UN is headquartered in New York City.
The main bodies of the United Nations include the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat. These all bodies were established under the UN Charter when the organization was created in 1945. The functions of the UN include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, providing humanitarian aid, and fostering economic and social development. They achieve these goals through a variety of methods, such as peacekeeping operations, diplomacy, and the provision of technical and financial assistance to member states.
