World Braille Day

The Braille method is used to read the same books and other periodicals as those printed in a visual font by the blind and visually impaired people. This method was invented by Louis Braille of France in the 19th century. Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number. This is an essential method for the blind and visually impaired people as per article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the context of education and freedom of expression and opinion.

World Braille Day is celebrated on the 4th of January, and it is an international day to highlight the awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights of the blind and visually impaired people. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in November 2018. Also, this day marks the birth of Louis Braille, who was the inventor of this method. This innovation of Braille is very useful to millions of blind and visually impaired people all over the world, and it gives brightness to their lives. This day also accepts that people with visual impairments deserve the same standard of human rights as everyone else in the world. The first World Braille Day was celebrated on January 4th, 2019.
